The Sensational Red Dress Edit
Anyone else gest great joy over planning what they are going to wear for special occasions? Here are some stunning red dresses and styles to consider for Valentine’s Day!
1. Sexy Bodycon Dress
If you’re open to “sucking it in” the whole evening and not eating any carbs during your Valentine’s Day dinner, then congratulations, you might consider a bodycon dress! While these dresses aren’t the most kind to a big meal or breathing in general, they sure are gorgeous. I own this House of CB Carlotta Dress that my husband wishes I would wear more, and also own the House of CB Sirene Dress in other colors (yes, you read correctly, colors is plural here).
When I put these dresses on, for at least the couple hours before I jump back in my sweats, I feel like I’m in my 20s again. I feel sexy. I feel young.
Who wouldn’t want to feel like that once in a while, especially on a special occasion?
2. Chic Silk Dress
I loooove me some silk dresses; they are just so, so, so chic! Silk dresses automatically make you the most fashionable no matter what room you’re walking into.
I love this Womance Gabrielle Red Silk Dress for an “I’m totally trying but acting like I’m not” look!
Also adore this Galvan Pandora Red Silk Gown for more formal settings.
3. Classy Midi Dress
I’ve never been shy with re-wearing outfits. I’ve always taken the shameless approach and mentality that “I spent the money, the outfit is amazing, so I will wear it as many times as possible to my heart’s desire.”
With that said, if you are slightly less shameless than I am, consider a midi dress for Valentine’s Day.
Midi dresses are super easy to re-wear because of how classic they are. You are still making a statement by all means, but it’s a subtle one vs. a screaming one. I love this Norma Kamali Diana Gown that also comes in various different colors. The fabric hugs your body in all the right ways, and the folds make sure you don’t ever need to “suck it in!” Really, what more can you ask for in a dress? For a luxe choice, consider this Alex Perry Callan Dress that’s just yumm.
4. Romantic Flowy Dress
For a more romantic evening, consider a red flowy dress instead.
Flowy dresses always make me feel so pretty, as if I should be in an early Taylor Swift music video like “Love Story” or something.
While this isn’t my go-to dress style, when I do want to feel like young Tay Tay, I love something like this Privacy Please Chrysanthemum Gown. The light ruffles add another dimension to the dress, and of course, you can’t go wrong with anything chiffon.
5. Boss Babe Blazer Dress
If you’re going directly from the office to meet your Valentine, or if you’re into a more badass look on special occasions, consider a #bossbabe blazer dress.
For me, there’s not another brand that screams a modern #bossbabe more than Balmain.
Any woman would slay in this Balmain Crepe Midi Dress!
6. Sparkly Sequin Dress
Okay, we’re officially getting into the good stuff. Is anyone else obsessed with sequin?
If you’re looking to shine bright like a diamond on Valentine’s Day, consider a sparkly sequin dress for the occasion. For a more casual look (yes, it is possible to be “casual” in sequin), consider this Anouki Crystal Strap Sequin Dress. For a dress that truly wows, this De La Vali Clara Sequin Dress is a pure stunner. I might have to add this one to my own sequin collection… ;)
7. Luxe Feather-trimmed Dress
For something fun and unique, consider a feather-trimmed dress. Now, the important thing to note about feathered dresses is the quality of the feathers!
There’s nothing more awful than a dress with sad feathers (ladies, you all know what I’m talking about here).
How gorgeous is this 16Arlington Billie Feather-trimmed Dress and this 16Arlington Himawari Feather-trimmed Dress? My mind is blown! See how happy and full of life those feathers are?!
8. Sleek Jersey Dress
This is probably my favorite dress style, the sleek jersey dress. More than any other style, in my humble opinion, these dresses truly exemplify the “I might not look like I’m trying really hard but I totally am.”
They are just the right amount of sexy, especially in long sleeves, and make me look way taller than I actually am.
Of all the dresses on this list, this Alexandre Vauthier Long Sleeve Jersey Gown is my absolute favorite. This Alexandre Vauthier One Shoulder Asymmetric Dress is also a real winner.
9. Red Carpet Evening Gown
Last but not least, you can always red carpet Valentine’s Day. Who says you have to be going to some gala to wear something magnificent like this? Who says you can’t wear an evening gown and eat delivery in the comfort of your own home?
The best part about dressing up, at least for me, is the actual dressing up! It’s absolutely for myself, not for anyone else, so it’s equally enjoyable even if I’m at home.
For something really feminine, I am loving this Marchesa Organza and Corded Lace Gown. For something that is Oscars worthy, consider this Rasario Red Strapless Corset Gown.
