What is the Purpose?
What is the purpose of your wedding or event? And before you answer, no, the purpose of your wedding isn’t just to get married. That’s simply an outcome of the wedding, albeit an important one. Here at Paulina Yeh Events, we believe that events should have an innate purpose, and our designs start from there.
Oxford Dictionary defines the word purpose as the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Is the purpose of your wedding to celebrate all that you’ve been through and conquered as a couple? Is the purpose of your wedding to honor the parents that raised you? Maybe it is to highlight the coming-together of two different cultures? Or is it just to celebrate love for loves sake (and what better reason!)? We believe, after listening to author Priya Parker at the latest Engage Summit, finding the purpose of your wedding or event is the most important thing you can do. Once we’ve defined the purpose or meaning of the event, we can then kick-start the design process to ensure everything we plan is tailored and curated to that notion. This philosophy ensures a truly unique event.
It’s easy to throw a fancy party and go home; that’s not us. We are here to create experiences that reflect our clients’ unique character, and more importantly, their purpose as human beings.
and… Is it Transformational?
In the book Designing Experiences by J. Robert Rossman and Mathew D. Duerden, the authors talk about different types of experiences and how they matter.
A memorable experience is a typical activity + emotions, such as attending a wedding and having a good time with friends.
A meaningful experience teaches us something about ourselves or expands our knowledge of the world. Think about a wedding that made you reflect on your own beliefs of love and marriage. You didn’t just experience joy with friends at this event; you experienced self-reflection.
A transformational experience creates change. This is the most rare and precious experiences. For example, maybe attending a wedding helped you remember the importance of family and you subsequently make a real effort to go home and see your parents more often.
We believe in creating meaningful and transformational experiences. We want you and your guests to walk away with tons of emotions, reflection, and discovery. We are here to help you create moments that will be remembered and cherished for a lifetime.
